Understanding Body Complexity
Our bodies are a beautifully complex design! The more you understand how the systems of the body work together, coupled with our genetic make-up and environmental factors, you can begin to understand just how unique and complex each of us are.
While all of our bodies need the same essentials; vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, hormones, etc., each of us are in need of different supplementations, diets, exercises, etc. Each of us have different toxicity levels, food sensitivities, perhaps candida overgrowth, inflammation and other various factors that contribute to how we need to support our body.
The aforementioned reasons are all why what works for one person may not work for you, and why you may be struggling to regain balance within your body (otherwise known as equilibrium). As well as why taking a bunch of supplements doesn’t necessarily help our bodies and could potentially cause other issues within our bodies. Same goes for detoxing and certain dieting. Let me give a simple example: A person has acid-reflux and asks for an herbal supplement that will help. While a herbal supplement may help reduce the amount of acid reflux the person is having, it will not necessarily cure the cause of the acid reflux. Is the acid reflux the result of diet? Is it the result of too little stomach acid? There are numerous factors that could be causing the acid reflux and getting to the bottom of that cause is essential.
Last week I had someone reach out to me about a thyroid issue. She had been to endocrine specialists, a medical doctor, and a naturopath. While speaking with her, I found out that while she had multiple blood test done and a body scan, the blood tests were only looking at her thyroid levels, and the body scan-while it gave her some good insight, the only thing that came of it was a recommendation to take iodine. She was still having issues and not seeing improvement after 6 months. Never did anyone run any other tests. When someone has a thyroid issue, it is not just a matter of making too much thyroxine or too little. That may be part of the issue, but usually is not the only cause. I was able to provide her with some things to consider and ask about.
In conclusion, having a narrowed scope of vision when it comes to health can be detrimental to your body, and throwing supplements at it can also have negative or unproductive results.
